"I love anything spicy; food, people, stories. Like most New Mexican’s will tell you, we are proud of our cultures, our land, our communities, our families and our ancestors. I am a Norteña, Chicana, Mestiza, Taoseña, Burqueña. You don’t have to know what this means as much as know that this matters, always. I am torn between my love of the desert and awe of the Pacific Ocean. I am a social worker in Seattle who believes in justice, liberation, beauty, art, and the power of connection. I am working on my clinical license with a focus on community centered practices of healing from trauma, culturally responsive and integrative healing, and healing through expressive arts."
"I was born and raised in Seattle and was a resident for 30 years. I moved to Omaha, Nebraska to raise my 3 girls and to get married. I had 2 more children in Omaha and am now the grandmother to 5 granddaughters and three grandsons. After 23 years away, I came back to Seattle because my mom got sick. I didn’t want her to go through heart surgery by her self so i came back to Seattle to help her. I discovered that Seattle is not home anymore. It’s hard to work, live or raise a family here. It’s just hard surviving in Washington—everything costs too much. Unless you have a very high paying job, you can’t live here without working 2 or 3 jobs.”
"I moved to Tukwila to make a better living than I did in Richland, Wa. I currently work for Tukwila School District as a Bus Driver. I am living at the United Methodist Church as an inside manager and drive the food bank truck on the Weekends. I have three grown children and 5.5 grand children. I enjoy gardening, canning and fishing. I like to go skiing and stand up paddle boarding in my spare time. I also spend lots of time with my kids and grandchildren.”
